Going "Natural"

Goodbye Gas Guzzling SUV....Hello Natural Gas Dream!

It kills me that gas has actually reached $4.00 a gallon. I get sick every time I dump $60 into my car....and that's every week. I mean, we are basically paying an extra car payment with the amount of gas we use each month. The last couple of months Bryan and I have been researching natural gas vehicles and weighing the pros and cons. In the end, we found that the pros far outweigh the cons. So, we are the proud new owners of this 1998 Honda Civic. Isn't she a beauty? Although the car smells like mothballs.....she runs like a champ! Here are just some of the pros and cons to owning a natural gas vehicle:

PROS
*Paying $0.64 a gallon
*Getting a $2,000 tax credit
*Being able to ride in the carpool lane at any time...SWEET!

CONS
*Less cargo space
*A smaller tank (only holds 6 gallons)
*Limited gas stations carrying natural gas

We figured that if the gas prices stay where they are or increase in the future, we will be saving at least $3,000 a year.

That is so cool. Cole and I have been thinking about doing that too. I've stopped driving places because it bugs me too much to buy gas. $75 the other day to fill up our car - that is almost $100. Freakin' ridiculous! Congratulations to you guys!

That is great. Keep me posted on how you like it. Glad to see things are going well.

I'm glad to read that you're liking the natural gas car....we've been researching them seriously as well. Was it hard to find one? My husband has had a hard time finding one at a decent price because there is so much interest in them right now.

$3000 a year? That is insane - I can't believe how much gas is right now - it's ridiculous!! It makes me so irrate when I go to fill up our truck at the pump and spend $70 or $80 right now.

So, they have older vehicles that are running on natural gas? I was thinking that it was only newer ones. That is great to know. YOU WILL ABSOLUTELY LOVE THAT HONDA! I loved my 95 honda civic! It was the best dang car ever and I miss it tons.

I love it!!! I can't wait to get one too. It is a beauty. I don't know that it will fit the size of my family though so I hope they have some that seat five. Anyway I will think of you everytime I fill up my gas guzzler.

This is so great, Marc! I need a new car but am not sure what to do. I really "need" the dog/passenger space that's in an SUV but don't want to get another gas guzzler.

I'm so excited you guys were able to find a natural gas car.

0.64/gallon??? Incredible.

We are totally serious about getting a new car, too. Did you sell your SUV? Where did you find a natural gas car, and where are the gas stations you can fill up? So many questions...

What a great idea. I wish I had a car that didn't cost me an arm and a leg to fill up every week! What a dream.

Paid $110 to fill up my truck the other day (I love $4.69 Diesel) -

Have you looked into getting a pump at your house?

I'm jealous - I didn't even consider gas prices when I got my SUV and now I'm regretting it! We need to get together again soon. I go back to work on the 7th of July! It's coming way too fast.

Hey Marcae
I don't get it like Summer asked can you elaborate more in your next entry. I thought 98 HOnda Civics were just the same as the stuff we drive today or is that a special version of a 98 honda civic. How much did it cost you to buy it. Just a economical question if you don't mind me asking since Cars is our mutual business. Love you Tami

I want one! It is crazy filling our SUV with gas and now with Mark working so far from home it makes it worse. Where did you find it?

Lacey said...

You were telling me about it. I know you can get them converted...how much does that cost? I know I just filled up the SUV today and it was $78. I wanted to throw up. Like Summer said about the Civic, they are great cars and I loved mine. So will you drive it or will Bryan drive it to work? It's nice having Nate work from home, but it still feels like we go through so much gas. Oh...what to do??
